The chip shortage continues in 2022!
Dec 25 , 2021

The out-of-stock trend continues! ST, NXP, ADI, Renesas, ON Semiconductor, Qualcomm, Xilinx and other company release the latest statements.

Since the second half of last year, there have been frequent shortages in the market. Now that one year has passed, opinions are divided among all walks of life as to whether the chip shortage tide has eased. Therefore, we have compiled the latest market trends of original manufacturers such as ST, Renesas, NXP, ADI, ON Semiconductor, Xilinx, Microchip, Qualcomm, Toshiba, DIODES, Infineon, etc.

ST: There is a big gap in high-end products and car-regulated chips

Since the price of ST products fell, most spot dealers have been selling goods, but this month there has been a slight rebound. For example, the prices of STM8S003F3P6TR and STM32F103VCT6 have risen slightly . It is worth noting that the market price of ST's brake system chips has soared in recent days, and other automotive chips have also risen accordingly, and there is still a large gap in high-end products and car-regulated chips, and the delivery period is still very long.

In addition, the original ST factory is expected to re-adjust its production capacity after December 25. Small customer orders are expected to be included in the production plan, and production capacity will also improve. The original fab has also invested in the production of STM8S003, 005, and STM32GXXX series, but TSMC wafer series such as STM32LXXX series and automotive grades will still be in short supply in the first half of next year.

Renesas: A 10% increase across the board in January next year

Renesas recently announced that the price of all products will increase by 10% from January 1 , 2022. The products raised this time include the newly acquired Dialog products of Renesas. The reason for the price increase is mainly due to the capacity constraints of the front-end (wafer), back-end, testing and packaging, and raw materials, which have caused suppliers to significantly increase costs. It is worth noting that some of the old models of major appliances will be discontinued and the production capacity will be transferred to automotive-grade ICs.

NXP: Announcement to warn the first wave of shortages

Recently, the original NXP factory issued a warning notice to customers, reminding customers to stock up in Q4 quarter to meet the wave of shortages in Q1 quarter of 2022. For now, there has been a big gap in the supply of the MK series, and most customers’ order schedule has been postponed to 2023 . Part of the MPU, MCU and clock chip lead time is as long as 78 weeks . The KEAN series has been severely out of stock since the Q3 quarter. The average delivery time given by NXP is around 52 weeks , and some materials have not even been delivered yet.

In addition, NXP car regulation chip has eased some time ago, so many customers are in a wait-and-see state. However, it seems that the actual quantity of the original factory is not as large as expected. For some shortages of automotive chips, the original factory has implemented a distribution system, and the warehouse inventory of all agents also needs to be approved by the original factory for deployment and shipment.

ADI: From December 1st, all series of products will increase by 6%

Recently, ADI’s market has continued to be hot, and product prices have continued to rise. The demand is mainly concentrated in server and automotive products. The price of general-purpose products is relatively stable due to the fact that a small amount of products have been delivered from the original factory last month. In addition, ADI announced that starting from December 1st, the price of the entire series will increase by 6% . According to insiders, by 2022, ADI may announce a new round of price increases, the increase is expected to be more than 10% , and the market is expected to be in a state of price surge by then. At present, the demand for ADI has increased significantly, and the delivery period of some materials has been more than 90 weeks , and the subsequent prices are also rising.

In addition, ADI's brand Maxim will also announce price increases in response to headquarters requirements. It is expected to issue a price increase letter in February and March next year. The specific increase is unknown. At this stage, the delivery time of universal material products is about 26 weeks, and the delivery time of products with special material numbers Basically more than 40 weeks.

ON Semiconductor: Delivery time is up to 80 weeks

Since the Q4 quarter, ON Semiconductor has seen a substantial increase in market demand, which is mainly reflected in logic ICs, Mosfets and image sensors. Among them, the demand for 74 series of logic ICs has increased significantly . Due to capacity constraints, ON Semiconductor's current product delivery period is 30-50 weeks , and some products have a delivery period of as long as 80 weeks .

Due to the recent surge in demand for medium and high voltage MOS tubes, market prices have risen all the way. In addition, many factories are currently arranging production capacity for car-regulated products. As a result, low voltage MOS tubes are currently almost out of stock, and some of the delivery dates have exceeded 50%. Week . In addition, there has been news recently that ON Semiconductor will adjust the order window again, and orders for some materials will not be cancelled. This shows that ON Semiconductor’s stock-out situation will continue for a longer period of time.

It is worth noting that due to the continuous explosion of demand for intelligent driving of new energy vehicles, ON Semiconductor image sensors are also out of stock on a large scale, and the prices have risen again and again. NTD, NCP, and NCV series are all out of stock, and it is expected that the out-of-stock situation will continue into the Q2 quarter of next year.

Xilinx: 6/7 series are seriously out of stock

At present, the material shortage of XILINX (Xilinx) 6/7 series is very serious . This series has always been produced by Samsung. However, due to the conflicts between Samsung and Xilinx in the recent cooperation negotiations, Xilinx has been unable to obtain production line capacity for this series. It is expected that the shortage of this series will continue for a period of time.

The demand for Xilinx's FPGA and CPLD products has exploded, and overseas markets are even hotter, with quotations generally ranging from tens of dollars to hundreds of thousands or even tens of thousands of dollars.

Microchip: Extended product delivery

It is reported that Microchip's recent wafer production capacity reservation plan with TSMC has not been smoothly negotiated between the two parties. The tight production capacity will lead to a prolonged product delivery period, and most of Microchip's products may be out of stock for a longer period of time . The good news is that the prices of Microchip’s SMSC series have dropped , such as USB2514BI, 2514B, KSZ9031, KSZ8081, USB2517, LAN8710, and LAN8720. These materials, which were particularly out of stock in the past few months, are now slowly easing, and many goods are arriving one after another. The price is still at a mid-to-high level.

Toshiba: Will increase prices in January next year

TOSHIBA (Toshiba) recently announced that due to rising prices of raw materials, logistics and other supply chains, the company is under increasing pressure on its own profitability. Toshiba Electronics itself can no longer absorb costs, so it has decided to start from January 1, 2022. The official price increase has not yet been announced.

Qualcomm: Dec. 31 to increase Bluetooth products

In terms of Qualcomm, Netcom chips are still seriously out of stock . The AR8031, AR8033, and AR8035 series are in short supply. It is expected that the original factory will produce less next year, and some models will be discontinued. The most popular out-of-stock model AR8031 this month, the spot price has been over 1200 yuan , and the follow-up original factory has no output temporarily, and the short-term shortage cannot be alleviated.

In addition, Qualcomm recently announced that it will carry out a second price increase for its Bluetooth products starting from December 31. Among them, QCC51XX series will be increased by 17%, QCC30XX series will be increased by 6%, CSR8670/CSR8675 will be increased by 21%, CSR8811 series will be increased by 15%, and CSR8615/CSR8635 will be increased by 13%.

DIODES: Delivery time extended to 40-50 weeks

In terms of DIODES, the original product delivery period of DIODES has been extended to 40-50 weeks . DIODES said that in addition to the reason for the shortage of wafers, the original factory's production capacity is also very tight, because most of the original factory's production capacity is allocated to automotive and power management products, which indirectly leads to lower unit prices such as discrete devices. 'S products cannot be supplied normally.

Infineon: Orders need to be placed at least one year in advance

For Infineon, the market is still out of stock, and Infineon’s product delivery date has not been eased until now. It is mainly concentrated in Mosfet and switch chips. Some agents have reported that end customers need to place orders at least one year in advance. .

At present, Infineon's MOS products are basically divided into goods. The delivery time of low voltage MOS is 42-52 weeks, the delivery time of high voltage MOS is 36-52 weeks, and the delivery time of IGBT materials is 39-50 weeks. Automobile related The chip lead time falls within 45-52 weeks. What is gratifying is that although the original factory has a long delivery period at this stage, the shortage of materials has been delivered one after another. However, the original factory recently mentioned that automotive chips such as IGBTs will be more in short supply next year.

On the whole, the strong demand for semiconductors has not changed, and the long-lasting global core shortage has not been fundamentally alleviated in Q4 this year. Judging from the supply of MCU and automotive chips, as major automobile manufacturers gradually resume production in the second half of this year, these two chips that bear the brunt of the chip shortage that broke out at the end of 2020 have a further trend of lack of core.
